Manifest Destiny

Manifest Destiny

User summary

A Japanese "dojin circle", meaning an indie designer team that publisher their own games. Manifest Destiny consists of two members, "Kuro" (Yasushi Kuroda), designer and project leader, and Kazuaki Adachi, assistant and playtester.

Founded in 1997, main activity since 2007, Manifest Destiny has designed and published a median of 10 games a year, selling them on amateur market places in Japan, typically the biannual "Game Market" in Tokyo. Up until about 2013, they mostly did card games that could fit in a tuck-box, and printed them in small print runs as low as 100 copies, sometimes even just 50. From about 2014 and on, they have started to also do the occasional larger board game. However, as to this day (2017), it's still rare that the original print run exceeds several hundred, though it happens.

Their first game to be picked up by a foreign publisher was The tale of Seven Heroes/Rent-a-hero (AEG), followed by games such as The Ravens of Thri Sahashri (Osprey Games) and Alicematic Heroes (Japanime games)

Note: Not everything from MD's catalogue is in the BGG database. Those missing are typically from the early years.
